so much great stuff i have just gotten to hearing. wow.
lets get into it.

principles of geometry have a full length out on tigersushi. apparently their album has been censored on itunes. because it has boobies on it. this mix they did for website allez-allez is possibly the best mix i’ve heard in ever. “their upcoming album on tigersushi ‘lazare’ is an ambitious album synthesis of decades of electronic music incorporating influences like john carpenter, terry riley, wendy carlos and the aphex twin. this hour long mix gives an idea of the sounds that have influenced them. put simply it is stunning.” allez-allez.co.uk

this clip from wellington NZ’s disasteradio is guaranteed to make you feel awesome, but the coolest thing about his brand new album visions is not necessarily the andrew wk meets moroder pick-me-up power pop songs, but the hot fairlight/commodore 64 instrumentals! check this out!

That Burial record is killing me. I love it.

mmm.. i can’t quite shake the feeling that burial is a better record to read about or think about than it is to actually listen to. i like watching the various bloggers shit their pants about the record, its inspired a lot of interesting writing, and a lot of it is within the greater context of dubstep which i’ll admit to not knowing heaps about. but yeah the music itself. for me its great but just not that great. it doesn’t sound earth-shattering to me, and thats the kind of status it seems to be given. i just end up feeling like i am too dumb to understand the complex or intellectual reasons why its ‘good’.

plus the whole thing with him being this recluse just doesn’t ring true to me. a little bit like the music itself is granted some kind of bonus legitimacy or authority simply because the author chooses to be obscure about its origins. if burial was all in your face with interviews, and we knew what his real name was and where he lived, maybe there wouldn’t be so much hype around his music. i’m not sure where i sit on that.

just my two cents. i don’t really know much what i’m talking about. its just that i was thinking about this today.

excuse me while i comment on my own comment - i just want to add that if nothing else, its a wodnerful, miraculous thing that its inspired so much debate and thought about music, and for that fact alone i’d have to say that the two burial albums are super important albums. even if i’m not totally taken with the music, i have to admit that i’ve been engaged at least in the coverage

I knew NOTHING about dubstep (other than it was some sort of genre popular in London at the moment). I had to wikipedia it!

I was not expecting to dig the record at all to be honest. All the hype was nuts and the whole recluse thing didn’t sit well with me either.

But then I finally caved, checked out the record and just was taken with it from the first listen. I think it may sound best on kickass headphones late at night when it’s raining…at least that’s how I’ve been enjoying it.
