unearthed

music, the fear, the internet!

is anyone else astounded and maybe even a little freaked out by the sheer volume of music on the triple j unearthed site? i’ve not really spent much time on it but i guess i assumed there’d be a handful (lets say < 1000) of bands/artists on there, but there’s like thousands, 10000 maybe? and these are just the people who know about or can be bothered engaging with the whole unearthed concept. i’m truly gob smacked, maybe even a little frightened. you hear people talk about the way home recording technology & the internet means there’s more music being made and put out there than ever before, but its kinda downright scary to actually see the volume of it laid out like this. sooooo many people making music.

this is a good thing…. right?

i didn’t know you were australian too; awesome!

    just A,B, & C gives you almost 1500 bands (1491)

Its great, in a way… - there’s lotss of great music on the site; but there’s some crap to sift through.

And more music can only be a good thing(?)

i mean - the question mark. i have a vague, inarticulate feeling of unease and paranoia, when i think about the volume of music being made these days, when i wander around the unearthed site. a question mark surrounded by two brackets.

    G’day tim,
Been away for a month so I’m catching up with your site.
I had the same thoughts as I trawled through the unearthed site. As a guy who likes to complete the set, and then line them all up on a shelf, I find the abundance of music available short circuits my ‘hoarding’ penchant.
I figure that I’ve become more discerning because of that.
So fret not – You’ll not be lost among the flotsam. After all, you’re rubbing shoulders with the finest on mixed blood. Well done.
    G
