excuse me, when did the mongols rule china

music

i am not the only totally bodacious and most excellent electronic artist featured on cyclic defrost’s free compilation cd of unheralded aussie electronic music that has just become available at gnarly record stores and other selected outlets. cowabunga! in fact there are a whole bunch of dudes on this comp that are at least as bodacious as me, i would say much more bodacious in fact. here is some proof as to why this cd is actually not just a compilation, but a historical document, and that you need to track it down at your earliest convenience:

Zeal - Salt
zeal is bob, rob or robert, who is making quirky electro pop on his computer in his home in adelaide and is putting out a debut ep later in the year. this track could probably be most easily compared to the first architecture in helsinki album, fragile fractured stuff with a huge dose of cute pop with a side order of melancholy. there is also an absolute gem of a track hidden in zeal’s myspace profile called ‘yumi and the sky’, all giant gentle bowed basses and dreamy pop sentiment. at the zeal website you can download mp3s and find out heaps more.

Cleptoclectics - Profit Killer
this mp3 is pretty low quality, and technically its an m4a file, but don’t let that put you off. it’ll play in winamp or itunes or whatever (i think). i ripped it from the noise website, which is currently the only place where you can hear or read about cleptoclectics, who is tom, a canberra lad now in sydney who messes with samples and computers. this track makes me think of blockhead, unkle ho, early four tet. its also good. if you can navigate your way around the noise website you can actually hear all of the tracks that are featured on the ‘emergent’ comp and even read interviews with all of the artists involved. you’ll find out wacky things like how cleptoclectics is a philosophy nerd. tell me that isn’t bodacious.

Aleks and the Ramps
i’ve mentioned aleks and his ramps before. check them out again. banjos! their track on the comp is called ‘graveyard etiquette.’

also on the comp are scissors for sparrow and dave miller. you can’t not track it down, honestly
