break thru franc tetaz

the franc tetaz

any of you nerds that likes to read the liner notes on the compact discs will know that franc has worked with a whole huge crazy number of melbourne artists to makes in the various ways the music is sound better. he’s had a big hand in making all kinds of the things, with the making the sounds nice in the speaker machines, and he does it with the computers and the brains and the vibe. he also making the soundtrack for the films. he is insightful and intuitive, and i think he can actually see through music and sound, ie the 8th and 9th dimensions.

but serious, franc was recently interviewed by chris hatzis for NYC internet radio station, breakthruradio.com – chris is an expat and former RRR presenter (he’d be familiar to many of this blog’s readers, i imagine) who has for a little while been living in new york, presenting an australia/nz-focused show for break thru radio.

the interview is fascinating because franc is, frankly, a fascinating guy. if you’ve ever been curious what franc’s working relationship is with the bands he works with, you’ll be very interested in this. i myself learnt a few things by listening to it, including that AIH’s brunswick studio – now named “buckingham palace” – is named after the giant poster of lindsay buckingham they have on the wall. i do so hope that its this picture:

the interview is an epic two-parter – this week’s show covers black cab, city city city and the recent triffids remasters; last week’s show covers architecture in helsinki, gotye, new buffalo and faux pas. THAT LAST ONE IS ME

need more franc? that photo up there was taken by one jon tjhia, who a year or so back interviewed franc for cyclic defrost, delving a bit more into his personal background. franc is a cool dude, you should read about him, and stuff.

Hey Tim, thanks for the mention, great work. I like your blog, too. Franc turned out to be a great interview, but, boy can he talk. It coulda gone for ages, and we didn’t even start on our heroes Moroder, Trevor Horn, or Kraftwerk. We woulda been there for days. It was great to catch up with him.

Keep in touch…

“Cool Quotes”

“Psychedelic. Balearic. Straight up pop. Call it what you want, this is memorable music.” keytarsandviolins

“Lush, dreamy future pop that just begs you to dive in headfirst, your heart in close second. Just be careful how many times you dip in – you might find yourself blissfully lost in here.” mess+noise

“Impressive elastic strands of plaited sense associations; extract of flashy disco, pastoral swoon and computer exploration.” threethousand

“A total cottage industry – one guy recording, pressing and releasing his own music – and it’s an example of how to do it right from the bottom up.” Stylus

“A manic journey of sounds, bound by neither genre nor era.” Beat

“Cuts-and-pastes big samples with delicately rendered instrumentation. A party jam. Four stars.” Pitchfork
